Book 93 of 500!

This book was called Country Heart & Soul: 25 years of Country Magazine. It was a big book with huge pictures of stories from the magazine, Country. My parent’s have been giving that magazine to me every year for Christmas for the last so many years, and I love every issue! This was a special book that came from those magazines. It was beautiful and it makes my heart yearn even more than it already does for the country. My dream, to live on my own acreage in the beauty of God’s country. I can’t wait….

Book 92 of 500!

I read another book on my kindle! I love my kindle, I still love real books, but I have to admit the kindle is so much easier to stuff in my purse and carry with me for whenever I get a chance to read! This book was called Finding Emma by Steena Holmes. I really enjoyed it. It was about a little 2 year old girl who get’s abducted….and how the family left behind deals with it, and the mom still always search’s for the little girl. Does she get found?! Well, I could tell you, but I don’t want to spoil it just in case someone decides to read it!

Book 91 of 500!

I finally read and finished another book! This one was a LOT different then what I normally read. It is called Rediscover Catholicism: A Spiritual Guide To Living With Passion & Purpose by Matthew Kelly. I actually got this book at a Catholic church in Grand Junction, Colorado while my dad and I were there for a the month of June. I decided to go to church the Sunday after my best friend Melissa died and I was unable to make it home for the services. I have really been struggling with religion, and what I believe, and what I want to believe ever since my mom died. I want to believe what my mom believed, so that I can go to Heaven to see her again. However, it’s difficult to do that when she was taken away from me too soon and for no reason. Then it went downhill from there when I continued to lose other family members and ones so close to me like my Aunt Kathy, Melissa, Frisky, Pepper and Dutch. All of these were lost in just a year and a half! Anyway, in my ‘quest’ to figure things out, I thought this book would be helpful. Luckily, it also ended up being a good book and very interesting, and not boring at all like I thought it would be. Now I am going to pass this book on my my Great Aunt Ann, I think she might enjoy it too.

1 year anniversary of not having my mom……

February 15, 2013 was one year since my mom died. But we wanted to do something on February 10, 2013, which is the day she had her heart attack and went into the hospital. I just really wanted to do something for us in honor and memory of her, but I wasn’t quite sure what. My dad and I thought about it and he helped me get some roses and make up some tags with her picture and dates on them, that we attached to the roses. We woke up early on a Sunday  morning and basically walked through her ‘final moments’ of the year before on that day. We drove to Elmhurst College like she would have done and then to the hospital etc.

Mom’s car loaded to go.

Miscellaneous!

This is going to be a post of a little bit of everything. These pictures are from February and March, and it wouldn’t make sense to do an individual post for each one! So enjoy this mas-match of STUFF!!

The first picture is of my hand wearing 2 of my  mom’s rings and her watch. The reason I took a picture is because, when I put my mom’s watch on, having already been wearing her rings, it just shocked me how much my hand looked like my mom’s hand. I have always been told how much I look like my mom, and it’s true, I do. But for some reason, it was just a shock, but in a good way, how true it really is. I’m so glad I look like my mom, if not, I might forget what she looked like, and I just don’t want that to ever happen…..

Book 90 of 500!

The next book I read was The Fall of Five by Pittacus Lore. The next long book in the series dad and me read. I really enjoyed it. Sometimes I couldn’t put it down. I need to know what happens next, but I don’t want the series to ever end!

Book 89 of 500!

For some reason I haven’t been able to read since May. I’ve always loved reading, so it was very weird. A couple weekends ago I finally started to read again! I read I Am Number Four: The Lost Files: The Forgotten Ones by Pittacus Lore. This was the next book in the series dad and me read, that my mom introduced us too. I should have known if any book could get me back into reading it would be one from this series! It doesn’t hurt that this one was a very quick read too!

RV show!

In February dad and me went to an RV show. We had gone 2 years before with Darrell, and decided to go back. It’s huge and it gets so tiring walking around and walking in and out of all the campers but it is fun to see what new things they have. We really like the new 5th wheels where the living room is up top where the bedroom usually is! Here are some photos that we took while there! 2013-02-14 13.10.332013-02-14 13.36.512013-02-14 13.45.582013-02-14 14.25.09

Photos of all my babies!!!

What could be better than doing an entire post with TONS of pictures of my loves?! Nothing! These animals are like my children, they are my life! They are really the only thing that gives me joy anymore in this cruel world…. Enjoy!

Waking up to Mary and Batman on my bed is just the most wonderful thing in the world! 2012-11-07 08.55.30Just a month before he died, here is Pepper enjoying his favorite window! 2012-11-13 10.15.03Mary & Batman enjoying Dutch’s play pen with him! 2012-11-25 09.03.52This was the funniest thing in the world when I caught Mary inside Dutch’s cage and then Batman wanted in on the action too! Especially considering Dutch ALWAYS wanted to get OUT of his cage, so why would the cats want to go IN?? 2012-12-15 07.48.592012-12-15 07.49.192012-12-19 16.46.18At Christmas time Mary ALWAYS wants to help when I’m wrapping presents. Too bad she always ends up tearing all the paper! 2012-12-19 18.33.40After Darrell and me went to Sam’s we were left with this box, so decided to put it in Dutch’s play pen and of course he loved it! Too bad we didn’t realize that by putting this in there he would jump on top of it and then jump OUT of the play pen! We eventually had to move it to the middle which didn’t help and then had to take it out altogether! Smart bun bun! 2012-12-23 09.23.35I just love the look that Oreo is giving in this picture!!!!! 2013-01-02 21.09.29This is the greatest photo EVER! Mary and Batman inside the play pen and Dutch outside of it! Dad’s Retirement!

January 30, 2012 was dad’s last day at Sear’s and dad’s last day working EVER! That is because he retired! He started his retirement on his birthday 2/1/12! He decided that after what happened to mom, it just wasn’t worth it to work anymore. Mom never got to retire. You just never know how much time you have left, and why waste your days working? I couldn’t agree more.

So I spent the day with my dad and Oreo on his birthday and official first day of retirement! 2013-02-01 10.20.272013-02-01 10.21.15

We had a really fun day! We went to a movie and had krakus ham and cheese at Hog Wild and got Coldstone for dessert, among other things that day. Plus I got to wear another one of my awesome Christmas presents from my daddy bean! 2013-02-01 10.17.292013-02-01 10.17.43

Happy Retirement dad! I hope you get to enjoy a really long one!

Pepper Cola Langstraat 8/1/94 – 12/26/12

So the day after Christmas Darrell had to go back to work and I was planning on going to my parent’s house. Dad and I were going out to breakfast along with some other plans. Going out to breakfast the day after Christmas was a tradition that my parents and I have been doing for many years. Anyways, Pepper hadn’t been doing too well for a while. Although some days he seemed just fine, but for the last few days he really wasn’t good. My dad called me in the morning and basically said that he really wasn’t moving much, just laying there, and he had to bring him to the litter box. I came over and just tried to spend some time with him. 2012-12-26 08.14.00

While we were trying to figure out what we should do, we wanted Pepper to be able to open his Christmas presents. 2012-12-26 08.14.152012-12-26 08.54.30

As you can see he wasn’t enjoying the presents at all, and he really couldn’t move, he just laid there. So dad and me had to make the hardest decision ever, and that was to put him down, so he wasn’t in pain anymore and was no longer suffering. Obviously, I had a hard time with this. I didn’t want to take my mom off the ventilator and I didn’t want to let Pepper go either. I felt like we were killing him instead of helping him. I have a hard time comprehending that we are doing what is best for them. Because what was best for me, was to keep Pepper alive…..

So we brought him to the kitty vet and said our goodbyes, as best as you can. Then they gave him the first injection and then the second one. I held him the whole time, and cried the whole time, and then just like that my baby was gone….. I had rescued him and cared for him for 18 years. This was my child, and I would never get to see him or hold him ever again. Peeps was an amazing cat. He was just the sweetest, most loving thing all of the time. You could just drape him over your shoulder and walk wherever and he would sit on your lap and he never tried to escape or get away outside. Nothing can ever replace him or the joy that he brought each of us.

I love and miss you Peppery Peeps. I hope you are enjoying Heaven sitting in Mom’s lap while she rocks and playing with Frisky again……

Christmas 2012!

I can’t believe how much time has passed, and with my life going the way it is, I have been unable to keep up with my posts. So it is July but I am finally getting around to write about Christmas. It was my first Christmas without my mom, and it was very hard to get through. I feel like we just kind of went through the motions and didn’t truly enjoy the season, although we did try. I had my husband and dad and then of course my babies. Unfortunately at the time I had no idea it would be Pepper’s last Christmas and Dutch’s first and only Christmas. (More on this in other posts to come…..)

My dad, Darrell, Grandpa, Aunt Judy and Uncle Ken and I went to have Christmas brunch with my Great Aunt Ann. We had done this last year with my mom and had a good time and the food was good so figured we might as well do it again.

I found this ornament that I thought was really cute, because it’s for Twitter but we also used to have a bird named Tweets, too bad he was yellow and not blue….2012-11-17 14.15.13

Halloween 2012!

Well it was the first Halloween without my mom. I definitely was in no mood to celebrate any holidays this past year, and wasn’t going to decorate or do anything. However, when dad and me went to the Fisher Farm open house they were giving away free pumpkins, so we each took one. Here is dad’s pumpkin, his black cat light he put up in the front window, and his pumpkin w/ the kitty light!
