So the weekend after the 4th of July my dad and I went to Iowa a Friday through Monday. Well actually we decided to leave Thursday night at around 4:30pm because I took my lunch at 4pm. I actually enjoyed doing this much more than driving straight through, my dad would disagree about this being the better way. Oh and Pepper and Oreo came with us.
Once we were in Iowa we stopped near the Quad Cities and had dinner at the Village Inn, my food was good, dad’s wasn’t, and he kept scratching his back, but we didn’t know why yet. We stopped right past Des Moines to get a few hours of sleep in the RV. I slept great, dad didn’t. During the night he woke me up to have me look at his back and stomach. Here is what I saw:
Turned out he started 2 new antibiotics that day and he was allergic to one of them! Poor dad was miserable the entire trip!
We did stop at one of our favorite rest areas, we always used to stop here with mom, even though she stayed in the car!
On the Friday we did end up going to the Orange City ER, but they did nothing for him. We had a good visit, we did get to visit with Aunt Kathy and Zoey a couple times, which I’m very thankful for, of course at the time we had no idea it would be our last visit.
We got to all of our favorite places to eat like Bob’s, Blue Bunny, Pizza Ranch, Culver’s, Hardee’s, Taco John’s and Aunt Diane’s cooking. Plus Monk’s when we stopped on our way home in the Dells.
We also got to visit with my dad’s aunt and uncle who is 101 years old! Uncle LeRoy let us shoot guns on his acreage, and I always love seeing the farm kitties!
In the end it was a very nice trip. Of course the kitties don’t enjoy it too much and this is how Oreo got back at my dad!
