- Carefully look for an ID tag and contact the owner.
- Ask neighbors if they know the cat's owner.
- Have the cat checked for an implanted microchip that can identify it's owner. Local vets, shelters and the Dupage Animal Control can scan for this chip.
- If you are sure the cat is a true stray, consider adopting the cat yourself. Make sure you get a proper medical checkup for the cat's good health.
- If you can not find the owner, and can not keep the cat, try to find a no-kill shelter that is currently accepting strays. DO NOT just drop the animal off at their door and leave.
- Contact the local police for the stray holding facility in your community. In Bensenville, contact the police at 630-766-2131. The Bensenville Animal Hospital is the stray holding facility for Bensenville.
- Call the Dupage Animal Control. They provide the largest lost & found service in the county as well as an excellent adoption service..
